How to Refill Your Windshield Wiper Fluid

Openbay Windshield Wiper

Refilling your car’s windshield wiper fluid reservoir is about as easy as filling up your gas tank. It’s even more convenient than pumping gas, considering you can do it right in your garage or driveway. Just follow the 5 steps below.

How to Add Windshield Washer Fluid – 5 Steps:

  1. Buy Fluid

You can pick some up from your local auto parts store, or even from the grocery store in the auto parts aisle. If you live in an especially cold climate, consider buying a bottle of fluid that also contains deicing elements to more easily remove ice from your windshield and to prevent it from forming.

  2. Open Hood

  3. Find White Container and Remove Plastic Cap

Find the fluid reservoir. This part’s easy. The reservoir might even have the words “Washer Fluid” printed on it, making matters even simpler.

  4. Pour Fluid into Reservoir (with or without a funnel) to Fill Line

Pour the windshield washer fluid directly into the reservoir through the opening. Although you can use a funnel to make sure you don’t spill any of the washer fluid, it’s also easily doable without a funnel if you exercise a bit of care. If you can’t see the fill line, fill it about 3/4 full. The fluid will expand as the car heats up, so don’t fill it all the way!

  5. Secure Cap and Close Hood

How do you know when you need to refill your windshield wiper fluid reservoir? That’s also easy. Some cars come with an indicator that will light up on your dashboard to tell you if the fluid level is low and needs refilling. Most of the time, though, it’s easy to tell by simply testing the sprayer. If little to no fluid comes out, or if the spray is noticeably weak, it’s time to put your newly learned skill to the test.
